New security role introduced in D365 CE for easier mailbox approval process

If you are into Microsoft D365 CE(CRM) dev stuffs and got your hands dirty on automated email notification or configuration of D365 App for Outlook , you’d know the pain of mailbox approval process. That innocent “Approve email’ button works only if a Global Admin or Exchange Admin clicks on it. This was indeed a cumbersome task to get hold of a Global Admin/Exchange Admin each time you need a mailbox to be approved. I still remember there were instances where I got stuck because of I needed a mailbox to be approved quickly for my testing but no Global admins available to do that right away.

Now to ease out the process Microsoft has introduced a new security role in D365 CE has by which the mailbox approval process can be delegated. The name of the security role is – Delegated Mailbox Approver. This is now available in Power Platform Admin Center. Please refer to the below screenshot:

Only one catch is as one time activity Global Admin or Exchange admin needs to assign this role to one or more users(or read system admin users). After that those users would be able to approve mailbox without any further need of Global Admin or Exchange admin.

This is indeed a much awaited feature Microsoft has brought. Now its time to explore further possiblilities such as automating the process using Power Automate or through any code extension. If you have something to share please feel free to do it via comments.
